Race Day is Done

Well, we had very mixed results. The AWDD (Adaptive Wheel to Drive-train Decoupling technology) system on the hub suffered a catastrophic failure due to essentially a missing lock nut. This set us back quite a bit. We tried to get a new bearing, but one failure just led to another. We eventually enlisted the help of Brownsburg in order to get the car back to a running condition. By the end of the day, we had completed four heats, so to our knowledge, we qualified for scoring. However, the official mileage reports are not yet finished or public. We do have the results for the first two heats which were coincidentally the first two heats of the entire race day. Heat one yielded 496mpg, but we know we could have done better because we had issues communicating adjustments to the driver. For the second heat, we worked that out, and our system was breaking in and running even better and smoother. The second heat yielded 668mpg, which is quite impressive for our second year in the competition. The third and forth heat results along with the final average will be posted at a later date. We are working on a video, so we will also post that A.S.A.P.

Special thanks to David Pauley, Randy Shelton, Mike Simmons, and Craig Denney for all of their help.  Mr. Pauley is the sponsor for the club, and he has really worked hard on making sure we do as well as we possibly can. Mr. Shelton was drafted as a driver, but he contributed his ideas and did an excellent job monitoring the pace and timing of the laps. Mike is the brother of Tim Cutshaw, a member of the team, and he was also drafted to drive a truck and tow the trailer. He is great working with mechanical devices, and his experience and knowledge was essential to many of the improvements of this year’s car. Mr. Denney is the sponsor for Brownsburg, but we worked closely with him and his team throughout the weekend. When we were thinking that we were down and out, he offered us the parts we needed to patch the car back together. Their car had already been rendered undriveable, so we could take what we needed. Best of luck to Brownsburg in next year’s competition.

Thanks,
Parker Mitchell
Team Captain
